Rest in peace, Ronnie. Years ago when I heard about your passing I felt terrible. You're a fondly remembered member of the Class of 65. Know that you are missed.

Ronnie Michalove lived a passionate and very present life before his untimely death on June 25,1972. Ronnie died with two fellow passengers and the pilot in a plane crash somewhere in the southern region of the Pisgah forest. They were scouting out land to build a permanent campus for their school of transcendental meditation (TM).  Transcendental Meditation is a spiritual practice that Ronnie studied under the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Colorado and in Spain. Between his time at Asheville school and his life-shift into TM, he got a degree from UNC Chapel Hill in Political Science and Philosophy and moved up to New York in 1969 to be a stock broker. He returned to Chapel Hill in 1970, ran a health food store and taught classes at UNC on TM.

Ronnie’s niece Victoria Michalove shared two newspaper clippings on Ronnie with me and I wanted to share then with the rest of our class.
